The scale score descriptor gives kaiako an understanding of the reading skills and knowledge achievement at different levels of the scale. As the scale aligns with the NZ curriculum levels, this document can support teacher knowledge regarding scaffolding students in their learning - what needs to be in place before moving on to the next concept.
The descriptor is an important, research-based progression of comprehension strategies and show levels of difficulty using the strategies built in to the questions from the tests. They support teacher understanding of the progression in difficulty as the student becomes more sophisticated in their independent use of the strategies.
