The scale score descriptors give teachers an idea of the reading skills and knowledge that are tested at different levels of the scale. As the scale aligns with the NZ curriculum levels, this document can support teacher knowledge regarding scaffolding students in their learning - what needs to be in place before moving on to the next concept.
In the attached files, the seven descriptors are specifically important comprehension strategies and show progressions of difficulty within each, using questions from the tests. With example questions at different levels of the scale, they support teacher understanding of the progression in difficulty as the student becomes more sophisticated in their use of each of the strategies.
